Driving in Windy Conditions

It's easy to tell when the roads are getting slick from rain, congested with traffic, or even washed out from a heavy storm, but wind is the unseen enemy of the road. Wind gusts can be a huge danger on the road, but by keeping your ear open for the sound of them, you can keep yourself as well as other drivers in the greater Virginia Beach area safe from danger.

Safety is a big thing of us here at Charles Barker Preowned. From passengers to pedestrians, we think it's the driver's job to keep everyone safe when behind the wheel. Luckily, the fine people at Weather.com agree with this notion, as they've compiled a list of ways to stay safe on the windy roads.

High on their list is to be aware of the other vehicles around you. They claim that "high winds are more problematic for drivers of trucks, buses, recreational vehicles, campers, and drivers who are towing trailers."1 Even going off course a slight bit for a vehicle like any of these could spell disaster for those around them.

Second, it's best to lower your speed when traveling on windy roads. If you hear gusts of wind pounding on your car, it's best to reduce your speed, correct your steering, and take it easy overall for a minute, especially when switching lanes or passing larger vehicles such as trucks.

"Wind is often accompanied by heavy rain or winter precipitation," weather.com reminds us. "Stay alert for slippery areas."2

Of course, if the weather is really bad, it's most ideal to stay home and off the roads all together. Though, you can rest assured that you'll be safe as can be in any one of the incredible used cars that we carry here at 3252 Virginia Beach Blvd Virginia Beach, VA 23452.

If you'd like to arrange a test drive on any of the superb used offerings from Nissan, Chevrolet, or Honda that we carry, then be sure to either dial (866) 939-5150 or to submit a contact form online.
